I am so excited to officially start this journey with y'all, there are so many fun things to come! Next up: Your Engagement Session!
Here are some helpful tips that will make planning your engagement session a breathe: From general info, to outfit inspiration to location recommendations, find out all you need to know below.
WHEN SHOULD WE SCHEDULE OUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION?
There is no right or wrong time to schedule your engagement session - totally up to you! If you love a specific season, feel free to wait no matter when you got engaged or are getting married. The only time constraint you might have is if you are wanting to use your engagement pictures for your Save-The-Dates - in that case, you would want to schedule your engagement session fairly soon after you got engaged so you will have enough time to order and send them out.
HOW LONG IS AN ENGAGEMENT SESSION AND IS THERE A TIME OF THE DAY THAT IS BEST?
Engagement Sessions are anywhere from one to two hours long. The prettiest light is during the two hours leading up to sunset so I always recommend to schedule your session in that time frame for the prettiest soft and glowy light.
HOW MANY OUTFITS CAN WE BRING?
You can bring up to two outfits to wear at your engagement session. Most of my couples like having the option of wearing one outfit that is a little more dressy and one that is a little more casual, however, if you just have one that you absolutely love, that is perfectly fine too.
Quick tip: Bring some comfy shoes to walk in in between pictures! Sometimes, walking from one spot to another is inevitable and I'd hate for your feet to hurt or you ruining your nice shoes.
WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR? WHAT COLORS LOOK BEST?
If I had to choose one item of clothing I would recommend, it would be a long flowy dress for you. They are usually super comfy, flatter any body type and just photograph beautifully, especially if there is movement involved. Another favorite thing about flowy, long dresses is that it will give your hands something to hold on to!
A pretty blouse/shirt paired with jeans/pants and cute shoes is also a great option for you.
Button up shirts, paired with khakis/light grey pants or just jeans always look great in pictures! For a more casual look, a simple t-shirt or sweater with shorts or jeans looks great in pictures. For shoes, dress shoes (brown always look great!) are the way to go. In terms of colors, keep it simple and muted.

Whites, beiges, pastels (especially light blues or blush) and soft floral prints are so gorgeous and go really well with my photography style. Super bright and bold colors (especially hot pink) can tint skin tones so I don't recommend those. In terms of patterns, I just recommend to stay away from super busy patterns. If you need any help choosing/combining outfits, I am just an email away! :)
HOW MANY LOCATIONS CAN WE GO TO?
We can go to up to two different locations for your engagement session. I definitely recommend to make sure both locations are within reasonable distance of each other so we don't lose so much time (and light) while driving. I am always up for adventure so don't hesitate to let me know if you'd like to do your session at the Biltmore, the beach, the mountains or anywhere else in the world that is meaningful to you.
If you are wanting to do your session in Raleigh, I have tons of location recommendations I can send you!
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET OUR GALLERY BACK?
You will receive your preview gallery within 10-14 days of our session. From your preview gallery, you get to choose your 40 favorite images to keep and I will then send you a link to your final gallery with all the favorites that you have selected. Downloading your images from the online gallery is fast and easy and can be done from both smartphones and computers.
